College football season preview and my bold predictions

My Podcast on who will win the Heisman trophy.

My favorite season is almost upon us, COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON. The spring
season is about to be underway and that means practices and the spring game are
about to happen. The spring practices mean that teams are allowed to get back on
the field together and have real practices. The new freshman coming in are allowed
to practice on their new team, start to gain their chemistry and understand their new
playbook. The new season is going to be a fun one because there is no clear-cut
favorite to win it all. It is like a clump of a bunch of teams. Ohio State and Clemson
have the best betting odds to win it all but I think there are some sleepers.

The Big Ten last year was easily the best conference top to bottom last year.
Heading into the last regular-season weekend(aka rivalry week) there were
3 different teams that could have been in the playoffs from the Big Ten.
Minnesota needed to win their game against Wisconsin and then Ohio State in the
Big Ten Championship and Wisconsin needed the same. The winner of the game
would be in the Big Ten Championship. Ohio State, however, who was the number
1 team in the playoffs, only needed 1 win against their arch-rival Michigan or their
opponent in the Big Ten Championship. Ohio State won both of their games and
earned a chance in the College Football Semi-final against the also undefeated
Clemson.
The final score of the playoff semifinal game.
The game was held right after the first semi-final which LSU destroyed Oklahoma.
The next semi-final was one that turned into an instant classic. Both teams were
1 and 2 in their defense and offense, both undefeated, both had multiple players in the
Heisman Trophy race and they both had the best defensive efficiency in the country.
This was set up to be a classic and it was delivered.
Ohio State’s running attack which was one of the best in the country was compromised
early in the game when J.K Dobbins a 2,000-yard rusher injured his ankle after he had
a 96-yard touchdown run. Justin Fields was only 80% healthy because his knee was
hurt against Michigan. A big part of his game was running and that was compromised
along with his throwing because his footwork was awful. Clemson had an amazing
defensive game plan and they were destroying Ohio State on the run. Clemson had
all of the ingredients to win and they ended up winning on a defensive takeaway on the
last drive. LSU ended up destroying Clemson to win the national championship.
Now this year LSU lost their star receivers and QB along with their best defensive
players on a struggling defense. Clemson returns almost everyone from their offense
besides their running back but half of their defense left. Ohio State is losing many
veteran players and some studs on defense including Jeffery Okudah and Chase
Young who are both projected to go in the top 4 of the NFL draft. Oklahoma I believe
is going to be a nightmare this year with no QB and awful defense. They also lost their
top 2 receivers who are going to go in the first round of the NFL draft.
Alabama is going to have a crazy QB battle for this year and I am expecting one of
them to transfer. I think Tua Tagovailoa’s (who was a three-year starter at Alabama,
won a National championship for them and is the number 2 QB in the draft.) brother
will take over the starting position. He was on the team last year with his brother but
was the third string. When Tua went down Mac Jones took over with Taulia being the
backup. During recruiting however Nick Saban landed Bryce Young who is the number
1 dual-threat QB in the nation. I Believe That Tualia will win the starting job, Bryce
Young will be the backup and Mac Jones will transfer.

One team that I think can be the dark horse of the season just like Baylor last year is
North Carolina. They just rehired Mac Brown last year who is building a culture there
that is in place in so few schools. They have an excellent quarterback in Sam Howell
that is going to be a Heisman candidate. They had a great recruiting class this year
for UNC and they had a big game experience when they played Clemson last year and
lost by 1. UNC went into Clemson and went up 16-0 on the defending champs. They
had a chance to win the game with 3 seconds left after they scored a TD on a 4th and
goal. They could have kicked a PAT to go to OT but Mac Brown decided to go for 2
and trying and get out of Clemson with a win. They ran a read option and got tackled at the
half-yard line. They were a half-yard away from being the champs. I think they could beat
them this year when now they are going to be the home team.
I think Jim Harbaugh is going to be fired this year from Michigan because he cannot
win THE GAME. Michigan has gotten back to relevancy with him and can’t get over
that next hump.
Baylor is going to take a tumble this year because Matt Rhule left to go to the Panthers
and left Baylor is a struggle for a coach and many of their players are headed for the
NFL.
Here are my 5 BOLD predictions:
  1. Northwestern is going to finish the year in the top 25:
They have the number 2 ranked quarterback of the class of 2018 in Hunter Johnson.
Their running attack is going to be good against Wisconsin’s weakened linebacking core
with Chris Orr going to the draft. I expect Issah Bowser to have a breakout year and be in
contention to have 2,000 scrimmage yards this year. Pat Fitzgerald is always going to have
his players ready to play and bring a strong gameplan. I think they are going to come out of
the Big Ten West

  1. Florida wins the SEC Championship:
Many people will call me crazy for this and maybe a little psycho but I truly believe that this
is Florida’s year to advance to that next stage. Last year Kyle Trask took over at QB out of
nowhere. He didn’t even start a game in his senior year of high school. He proved to me and
many others though that he was indeed the real deal. I think that Florida’s stout defense
(who was the only one to hold LSU to under 28) will have 6 first-round draft picks on it.
They won their bowl game this year in a New Year’s Six and the only thing stopping them
this year was their offense and the elite teams in the SEC. Georgia, Alabama, and LSU all
lost their QB’s this year and I believe will struggle. Florida will be an elite defense this year
without facing 2 top 3 draft picks. Their secondary was also hurt around the board last year.
I think this team will be well balanced and be lead by Kyle Trask. Florida is bringing home
an SEC title to the swamp.

  1. That TEXAS IS BAAAAAAACK:
Image result for texas football Sam Ehlinger throwing a ball for a TD
As Sam Ehlinger’s words say from the sugar bowl “weeere Baaaaaaaaaaaack.”
I think that this will apply to this year after what many people call last year a trash year.
Sam Ehlinger decided to come back to school this year and probably be a Heisman
candidate. This year head coach Tom Herman brought over Ohio State’s passing
coordinator Micheal Yurkikc who helped Ohio State be the 5th best passing team
in the country with a QB who transferred to school before the season started.
This is going to be huge for Sam.  They brought in former OSU defensive coordinator
Chris Ash to help out the defense. Well, they don’t have to play defense because it is
the Big 12. Their star receiver is back and their newly turned RB who broke out last
year for 1,000 yards. I believe that they will be able to outscore anyone this year and
most importantly play the game at the pace they want. Their defense will also get
the key stops when they need it.
  1. Bo Nix passes for 4,000 yards
Auburn last year finished by beating Alabama at home with true freshman
quarterback Bo Nix. That’s something that makes any auburn fan think it’s a
successful season but especially because it was a true freshman. He showed
this year that he can be clutch too. In his first game ever in an auburn uniform,
he stepped up in the pocket, while already being down three and in field goal range
and threw a dime to his receiver to have a walk-off win against top 5 ranked Oregon.
This year he threw for 2,500 yards without being developed a lot. With another year of
growth in the offseason and becoming more familiar with being a starting quarterback at
a football blue blood, he will look to have tremendous numbers. I expect auburn to meet
Florida in the SEC championship. With a new offensive coordinator this year and
implementing a throw first offense he will thrive with his very talented receivers.
The thing he has working for him is his pure arm talent also. I think he will smash the
Auburn season passing record and throw for over 4,000 yards.

  1. Ohio State will be national champions:
Everyone will say but they lost him and him and him and him but look at their backups
who had a lot of playing time this year. Ohio State was blowing teams out left and right
this year. To many people, it looked like they would be invincible. They did lose a ton
on offense and defense this year but with the number 1 recruiting class and guys to
step up, I think they will be fine. Justin Fields is still under center for them. Many
people were talking him up for the Heisman trophy. J.K dobbins left who rushed for
2,000 yards and was also a Heisman candidate. Master Teague is going to be the
starting RB this year who rushed for 500-yards behinds dobbins. He is more of a
power back. The O-line will still be dominant. I saw Justin Fields miss some passes
last year that he is going to need to make this year if they want to win the Natty but I
am certain he will fix those errors because it is all footwork. The defense has studs
returning just like linebacker Malik Harrison who is a big hitter. They don’t have the
toughest schedule and I think they will be the only undefeated team in college football
this year. Ryan Day proved himself to be an excellent coach this year by making it to
the semi-final in his first year on the job. I think that Justin fields is going to, carry this
very talented team to a championship. This team is angry and looking for revenge.
